It is easier to be something you’re not than to be who you think, or more accurately, who you wish you were. It is safer; it is, at least to itself, truer. Pretending to be someone just like you is ultimately too close to home, too close to the bone; it is dangerous, a risk, especially as you can never know how you seem through other people’s eyes.
